‘SLIPPING THROUGH OUR FINGERS’ - HTTPS://GMCOVIDCOMMISSIONS.COM/

As an artist I get the opportunity to work not just in clay but explore other mediums which allow me to express my story or a message. Greater Manchester Combined Authority commissioned myself and another 59 artists at the beginning of the first lockdown in 2020 to create an artist response to the covid crisis, with songs, poems, animations, illustrations etc which document the impact of the pandemic and here’s mine. ‘Slipping through our fingers’ - my sculptural piece is made from plaster of Paris and toilet roll, it demonstrates the uncertainty that we all feel and the loss of control. We are all in isolation but all ‘in this together’.

'THE BIG APPLE' - HTTP://INVISIBLEBOUNDARIES.CO.UK/

I was selected for an Arts Council England funded project that was organised by Artcore in Derby which was titled ‘Invisible Boundaries’. This projects focus was to engage the local community in art activities focusing on the celebration of 175th of the Arboretum Park in Derby.  The concept behind my sculpture was inspired by the history of the park and its connection to Central Park in New York. The architect Frederick Law Olmsted took inspiration from the Arboretum for his design for Central Park. The sculpture was made from stoneware clay using a variety of methods including coiling, slab building and pinching. As part of this project I also held community workshops where I created plaster moulds for children to make their own apples which were displayed in a clay a basket during the exhibition.
